Fresh Air Stories - Frolic and Fro
In LHW Fresh Air Stories series we are meeting with Norwich resident Emilee and blogger behind the fabulous Frolic and Fro.
Hello, tell us a little about yourself?
I’m Emilee a travel and lifestyle blogger from Norwich. I have a little girl Lilah who is six and I love to share our family adventures and tips with my followers. I started blogging and using Instagram around two years ago and have loved all the opportunities and friends that they’ve brought my way.
Tell us about your city and what’s great about where you live?
After living in London for ten years, I was extremely reluctant to move back to my home city Norwich. I absolutely loved the fast-paced life and variety that London offered, but after having Lilah we knew we’d be able to live a much more comfortable family life in a smaller, more affordable city with family around for support. It took me a year or so to get used to being back but now I’m so in love with this beautiful city. It’s seems to be constantly evolving with endless independent shops and cafes opening all the time, there’s always something new to try.
What’s your favourite way to spend a free weekend?
Exploring new spots in Norfolk whether it be a beautiful Norfolk beach or a cute village café. We’re so lucky that we have the Norfolk coast on our doorstep. One of my goals this year is to spend more time discovering the hidden gems around the coastline…roll on summer! Some of our favourite weekend getaways are Holkham, Holt and Winterton.
When you’re away how do you make it homely, make the kids feel settled?
Lilah is happy as long as she has a full supply of stationery with her. She will draw and colour for hours on end if we’d let her! A full set of pens and paper must come away with us even if it’s just for one night.
Where is the place you would happily return to again and again as a family and why?
Lake Garda! We absolutely loved this stunning area of Italy when we visited for a family holiday a few years ago. The lake is so vast and there are so many beautiful towns, I feel like there is still so much for us to discover. We only touched on the south side, Desenzano, Sirmione and Lazise, so next time I would love to head further north along the lake and explore the picturesque medieval town of Malcesine, Riva and Limone.
What is the one item your kids need to travel with?
Her cuddly catty! Lilah has had her since she was just one and sleeps with her every night, so she comes everywhere with us. We almost left her behind in Croatia once when our boat was departing, and we spotted her lying on the harbour! She still remembers it even though she was only 2 at the time!
Aside from the basics what do you always travel with with kids?
We absolutely love the Usborne Pen and Paper Games book. It’s filled with tear off sheets for so many fun games like noughts and crosses, battleships, connect four, hangman and more. We have killed many hours waiting at airports and when flying with this handy little book!

You have an unlimited travel budget for 24 hours? Where do you go and why?
I would love to do a tour of the Caribbean; it looks like such a dream destination! My partner’s family are from Nevis and he’s promised to take me at some point (hoping I won’t be waiting too much longer!).
Most romantic place you have ever been taken to?
Definitely Venice! Darren took me a few years before Lilah was born and I remember being completely blown away by it. Evenings are so beautiful with all the twinkling lights reflecting off the water and violinists performing on the cobbled streets. It’s such a unique place, I’d love to go back some time.

Favourite travel resource on the web?
Sky Scanner without a doubt. I’ve never booked flights without using it! I find it the easiest and most effective tool to find the cheapest flights to anywhere. Even if you don’t know where you want to go but have a few days spare, you can select your travel dates or month and select ‘everywhere’ to find the cheapest destinations for that time.
Where is the best pizza place?
Armando’s in Brooklyn, New York! Hands down the best take-away pizza we’ve ever eaten. We still talk about it…often!
What’s your plans for 2020?
This is the first year we haven’t made any solid travel plans, which feels quite nice for a change. It would be nice to have a proper family summer holiday this year though as last year we sacrificed one for a New York trip in October. Obviously, it was worth it, but I did miss that week of sand in your toes and lazy beach days for sure.
